What is the average household income where you live?

I mentioned in my previous post that the average household income in Woodstock is $72,000. That is slightly above both the Canadian and Ontario averages. At first glance, that seemed good, but I thought I would do further research to see how that compares to nearby cities. As it turns out, the average income in Woodstock is lower than most surrounding cities. It seems as though the average household income in Ontario is being brought down by a few areas in Northern Ontario (and also the Windsor area) that have quite low incomes (closer to $40,000).

Here is how we add up next to other cities in the area. Again, this is average household income (not per person).

Woodstock: $72,771
Stratford: $72,769
East-Zorra/Tavistock: $78,682
South-West Oxford (including Ingersoll): $85,068
Brantford: $76,391
London: $77,635
Kitchener-Waterloo: $87,868
Guelph: $89,211

Other Canadian Cities:
Toronto: $81,230
Ottawa: $96,347
Calgary: $119,680
Montreal: $69,000
Halifax: $74,000
Vancouver: $83,000
Edmonton: $96,000

Interestingly enough, people still move, on average, the same amount. Here is the percentage of people who have moved in the past 5 years:

Woodstock: 47%
Stratford: 39%
East-Zorra/Tavistock: 29%
South-West Oxford: 26%
Brantford: 40%
London: 46%
Kitchener-Waterloo: 47%
Guelph: 45%

Why do you think so few people in the East-Zorra/Tavistock and SW Oxford areas move? I am guessing because of the strong farm presence. My parents have lived on the same farm for 30 years, and before that my dads father and grandfather lived there.

I am curious as to why there is such a difference in the % of people who have moved in the past 5 years between Stratford and Woodstock. They have similar demographics & population, but people seem to change houses more in Woodstock. If anyone has a guess, let me know!!
